Polson Cemetery – Hervey Bay QLD
Project: Masterplan for cemetery upgrade to best utilise remaining space, protect site bushland, improve visual amenity and provide shade. Comprising feature entry trees and new avenue plantings of mostly local native species (many of which were used in 19th century cemeteries); ash-plaque gardens to new avenue trees; extensive native plantings to site perimeter to attract birds; a “bushland [ash-plaque] garden of rest”, rose-hedged contemplation garden, seating areas, and pebble gardens with art bollards at driveway corners; a lizard-shaped concrete and mosaic-tile ash plaque feature garden; re-rendered and painted existing plaque walls and structures, and new ash plaque walls; and allowance for community input to theming and presentation of Aboriginal and South Sea Islander sections of the cemetery.
